We are delighted to share an update from the Chora Chori refuge just outside Kathmandu, Nepal. A member of the Nexus community, Yen Chin, visited the refuge earlier this month and it is great to see photos of all the great work that continues to benefit the young people lucky enough to have the refuge as their base.
Last weekend a group of girls from Jhapa returned home. They had been staying at the Chora Chori refuge for six months in order to complete a tailoring training course at the Kathmandu centre, providing them with skills to strengthen and support their home community and give them a future profession. Vocational training, as well as ensuring the wellbeing and rescuing young people who are in difficult and dangerous situations throughout Nepal, continues to be at the forefront of Chora Chori’s work.
The toilet block, which was built with previous donations from the Nexus community, is the space where a mural is planned to be created. The skill of mural design and creation will be taught to those at the refuge in the process. This mural has been designed by one of our yr13 learners, Yoko Lu.
Thanks to Camp Magic who sent over some brightly coloured t-shirts for all the young people at the refuge, they were delighted to receive them. Happy times with the Nexus hands cheering too!
Look out for information about our annual Climbathon which will take place in May, to raise funds and continue our support for this worthwhile cause helping young people in Nepal to gain education and opportunities for their future.
