Last week, our Instrumental Petting Zoo was back! Our Primary learners had the chance to meet our music teachers and take part in hands on interaction with our musical instruments (electric guitar, violin, cello, trombone, trumpet, flute, clarinet and saxophone). Many learners were inspired by their experience to play a new instrument and had opportunities to try many of the instruments.
As it is the new term we are offering instrumental lessons with our Nexus Independent Instrumental Teachers or Aureus Academy of Music Teachers. If you would be interested in your child learning an instrument please contact us at music@nexus.edu.sg
Additionally any learner wishing to learn the trumpet, trombone, saxophone, flute or clarinet - we will provide you with an instrument free of charge for the remainder of the school year.
We are pleased to welcome some new teachers into our instrumental programme. We are ever growing and the number of learners opting to learn a musical instrument is amazing. If you would like any further information regarding instrumental lessons please contact us at music@nexus.edu.sg

We are pleased to announce that all of our music ensembles are continuing this term. We are however extending our music ensembles programme. This term we are pleased to offer a music CCA to our younger learners (Years 1 and 2) called ‘Singing Stars’ which will take place at Friday lunchtime. For a past assembly performance video, click here!
Additionally the Chinese Drumming Team is back and we have begun rehearsing with Year 5 and 6 learners already. For a past assembly performance video, click here!
We are forming a new Chamber Choir for those learners wanting to enhance their singing skills, rehearsing more complex music and harmonies. Years 5 to 9 learners can sign up for this and it will take place on Thursdays after school.
All music ensembles commence on Monday, if you have not managed to register please email us at music@nexus.edu.sg
On Wednesday, 23 January 5pm the music department is hosting our first music recital. This is open to any learner who is currently taking instrumental lessons and working towards either an ABRSM or a Trinity music exam. The music exams provide scaffolding for learners during their instrumental lessons as well as aiding confidence through performance and a goal for learners within their lessons. Learners who take exams tend to be more motivated to practise at home and make further progress.
ABRSM runs traditional classical music style exams whereas Trinity has a rock and pop exam as well a jazz programme. Both are internationally recognised exams.
We have a number of Nexus learners taking an exam in Term 3 or 4 and this recital is the chance for them to perform 1 or 2 pieces and gain confidence in performing them before taking the exam. If your child is having lessons outside of school and would be interested in performing please contact us directly at music@nexus.edu.sg
