This was our first ever Nexus family festival, and it wasa wonderful way to bring our fantastic community together. There was a great atmosphere, with plenty of laughter, fun, awesome music and delicious food. Our worry about the rainy days earlier that week was unfounded and the weather in fact, turned out to be superb! It was evident how much our children enjoyed the extensive games provided, together with you, our sporting parents! It was also extremely encouraging to see our learners running their own booths based on their own entrepreneurial ideas and skills they have learnt in school.
A big thanks to all our parents, learners and staff, in particular the marketing team, the music department and our fantastic facilities crew. Huge thanks too, to the talented art-management team headed by our very own Nexus parent! NexFest'19 is definitely an event to be remembered.
This year’s theme was The Enchanted Forest. Our learners participated with huge enthusiasm in the week-long events including the book fair, storytellers, mystery readers and an extremely well-organised book swap by our Year 6 learners. Our amazing parent volunteers helped to make our enchanted forest display as well as preparing and running lunchtime craft activities which proved to be very popular with all our learners.
The library hosted Roger Jenkins, a well known Singapore storyteller. His presentation was funny, engaging and our primary learners enjoyed taking part in his marvellous stories. Friday’s dress up was outstanding with many magnificent costumes worn by our Nexus learners. Primary school staff collaborated and dressed up as characters from Alice in Wonderland.
Thank you to our Nexus community for another successful Book Week!
Our Nursery learners dived straight into our Inter-house Swimming Galas on Wednesday to get our aquatic events under way. There was so much excitement as our youngest learners worked their way around the large pool where they were faced with 5 stations designed to show the fundamental skill development they had made in swimming throughout the year. However, it was the ‘Boat Ride’ station that proved to be the hot favourite.
It was then the turn of Kindergarten and Year 1 children to take the splash zone to the next level. They too took part in a 6 station rotation showing all the new skills they had learned this year through a range of activities such as the ‘Treasure Hunt’ and ‘Toy Relay’. However, it was what happened next that blew many away. Each and every learner then completed their own 25m length (some assisted and some not - all depending on their level of water confidence) to claim points for their house. And the satisfaction of completing a whole length of the pool was written all over their faces for the rest of the day.
Year 2 and 3 swimmers then finished the day with an absolute cracker of an event in which the house points started pouring in! Each and every learner was involved in both freestyle and breaststroke heats before they embarked on the much anticipated house relay to conclude day 1 at the pool. It’s fair to say our younger learners would have slept well that night.
Thursday morning was no different, when our Year 4 to 6 learners turned up to the pool ready to make a splash! We were all treated to an amazing display of swimming skills in all four strokes; freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and even butterfly! No one could keep up with the house point tallies during this meet. And even if you could, the house relays blew the spreadsheet apart!
A special thank you to our secondary swim team and IGCSE PE learners who helped to ensure their younger peers were safe throughout the two days. Congratulations to all learners who were involved in another great house event. Watch this space for results in the next newsletter.

Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who attended the Year 6 Expedition information session. The learners are now on their way into exploring their topics of choice. We hope you are as excited as we are for your children to be embarking on this journey. It is sure to be a very interesting number of weeks ahead of us. Best of luck to us all!
