Nexus Beat IX took place last night and the Auditorium atmosphere was electric. With 19 bands/performers from Y5-13 they had our toes tapping, body shuffling and dancing in our seats. The amazing musicianship and confidence displayed on stage from each of them was wonderful to see and certainly inspiring for any of our younger learners who are eager to learn an instrument or join a band. Thank you to all the parents and supporters in the audience your cheers, applause and smile really help to provide a positive and safe performance platform.
Last nights performance was recorded and we will share this in the next newsletter however please see below a few candid shots!
Moving forwards we are looking for further opportunities to develop our rock band programme with more performance opportunities. If anyone in Secondary would like to join a rock band feel free to come along to the music department each Wednesday after school to the Rock Band CCA and we can team you up with like minded musicians and kick start you on your journey to stardom! Any Primary Y5/6 learner contact Ms Tash.
In addition those bands that performed will be invited to perform again in the canteen at lunchtime or Eco Cafe before school as well as some bands will also perform at the NEXUS Food fair next term. All current bands are encouraged to jump straight back into the music studios and begin learning song number 2 or even 3!
A big thank you to Rich from Songwork International who sponsored our event. They are going to be offering some songwriting workshops and song production/recording for 2 of the performances and this will be announed shortly. Rich spent 2 days with our learners during sound checks providing his wisdom and expertise to enhance their performances on stage and make suggestions to create that X Factor. We look forward to collaborating with Songwork again in the future.
The Primary Choir sang for our Nexus community as they entered the school in support of our Whole School Nexus Wellbeing Week. Big thanks to parents and guardians for supporting our primary choir which is made up of year 3 to 6 learners who are always enthusiastic to perform for an audience.
8 primary learners from Years 3-5 competed in the Metasprint Aquathlon as part of Team Nexus at Palawan Beach, Sentosa.
For many it was their first multisport event and luckily the skies were clear and the water calm as they dashed into the water for their 150m swim, followed by a 1.5km run. All that transition practice paid off as swimming goggles and hats were taken off and running shoes slipped on in record time. Well done to all of you, and thank you to the family and friends who came to support!
Nexus came 4th in the inter-school challenge but it was close! Many of the learners will compete again this coming Sunday in the Duathlon (run-bike-run), and finally in the Triathlon on 5th March when they put all 3 disciplines together for the first time. There's still time to sign up to compete as part of Team Nexus in the triathlon and your participation will help to edge us up the inter-school challenge leaderboard!
Further details can be found on the Metasprint Series website. Nexus learners can benefit from a 5% discount code on their registrations by entering MSS23DMNEXUS and selecting Nexus International School in the dropdown box on the registration form (only available to Nexus learners).
Learners and staff took part in a range of activities to support wellbeing. It was a good chance to reflect on how well we look after ourselves and one another.
