Primary Choir and Primary Orchestra end the term on a high note!

This morning the Primary Choir and Primary Orchestra serenaded our learners in each of the three assemblies. This was a wonderful way to end the term and provide a performance platform for our Nexus musicians. The musicians have been rehearsing non-stop over the past 7 weeks in Music Ensemble rehearsals to prepare for today's performances and all of the performances were well received by their audiences.

The Primary Choir renditions of 'Rather Be' by Clean Bandit and MJ's 'I'll Be There' were beautifully executed. Well done to soloists Jumi, Carrie, Orla and Isabel.

The Primary Orchestra which has grown in size since last year (and who's music is specifically written for each individual learner to accommodate their age and current level of proficiency) performed Vivaldi's 'Autumn' and The Beatles classic 'Yellow Submarine'

Congratulations to everyone involved and to the learners, teachers and parents for your on-going support. We will begin rehearsing after the holidays for Christmas with new music and new learners are encouraged to join.

Monday Lunchtime - Primary Orchestra

Have a great break and we look forward to making more music next term!

Learning the Violin in Year 5

We have just started a unit in Year 5 which focuses on learning to play the violin. So far this term the learners have completed 4 exploratory sessions. They have learnt the different parts of the violin, how to hold the violin and how to hold the bow. They have been introduced to the terms ‘Arco’ and ‘Pizzicato’ and have played as a class ‘Copy-Cat’ rhythms using pizzicato and the bow.

For many learners this is their first experience of a string instrument, others have played the violin at previous schools and are brushing off the cobwebs and remembering old skills, others who are more advanced are taking leading roles within the lessons to support others.

After the holiday we will begin to learn some simple melodies using open strings and first fingers. The learners have embraced this challenge and are having lots of fun. We will continue with this for approximately 6 more weeks, watch out on the HUB for mini videos and photos of our lessons.

Any learner who is interested in taking their learning further by continuing with violin lessons outside of the classroom is eligible for a free violin or cello trial lesson. Please contact lambert.c@nexus.edu.sg.
