Our Facebook NPG group is a place for all our parents (and other members that are close friends of Nexus) to interact and create a closer community. Please feel free to post questions, reminders or any related comments. Please feel free to also email us at any time npg@nexus.edu.sg https://www.facebook.com/groups/nexusparentgroup/
Well, well, well. The time has come. The School is moving east! Coincidentally to the most awesome side of Singapore and to the locality where all the cool people live (it's my home).
It is not without significant mistiness that we leave the gorgeous, old site where it all began eight years ago, where the Nexus, Singapore philosophy was born and where the community spirit began to evolve. Since then, look at what we have become: some champion learners, champion sportspeople, lots of champion young citizens guided by a uniquely pastoral and free-thinking staff.
Many parents have spoken to me about how they hope our community isn’t lost once we move, after all the new site is large, it has state of the art facilities and naturally we will all be more spread out. But community only exists because of the people that form it, and so responsibility rest on each and every one of us to do our little part to transport that community to Aljunied. There is nothing to that can get in the way of this process hopefully, because we are the same people, and are parents that chose Nexus for a reason. If the Fishpond is the symbolic foundation of our community, then I am assured by the School leaders that there will be a new Nexus Fishpond! We aren’t sure where it is going, but a new Fishpond is coming, and in the erudite words of Mr Paul Beach, “meanwhile our aquatic friends are going to take a short holiday.”
Activities next week will be built around nostalgia. There will be many goodbyes taking a number of creative forms. Make sure you get your photos, have a good wander and say farewell to a site that has become formative to all our progeny be they new or not new to the site.
Please book a few dates in for early next year. Firstly, the first coffee morning, Monday, 13 January 2020. This is for ALL parents to join, chat, network and enjoy breakfast with both staff and NPG committee members, yes, it will be an insane morning, where no one is really sure what is going on, but that’s fun, we are all in the same boat.
After the dust has settled, the NPG is hosting a welcome back coffee morning on Wednesday, 22 January 2020. This will be in the new NPG Lounge and all parents, new and incumbent are welcome. We are always looking for parents who can provide any amount of time to volunteer, but that is not our primary purpose. It is a casual event to chat about the new site and make new friends.
Vice President Tanu Shukla: it is with both sadness and excitement that I announce the relocation to London of Ms Tanu Shukla and family. Tanu has been the NPG’s dynamo. A practising medical professional, Tanu took on the Vice Presidency in September 2018 (and was re-elected in 2019) and the role of Social Director. How? I don’t know! But what I do know is that her irrepressible energy, forthright nature and cool-headed manner helped her produce countless, successful major events. But there’s much more to Tanu. She was a dedicated advocate of the parents’ voice, never diluting her opinion when representing the parents to the School, a loyal committee member, and a very, very dear personal friend, and wonderful support to me in the journey of evolving the role of the NPG. We’ll miss Tanu and we want to see her visit us soon.
Myself and the NPG team wish all families happy holidays and a great New Year. If you are travelling over this period, be safe and look after each other. The world remains unpredictable and volatile, we love the wonderful melting pot in which our very lucky children are immersed in at Nexus (and indeed in Singapore), and in a community where every conceivable culture flourishes and is celebrated. Access to such an environment is sadly rare and not often seen for the positive that it is. So, we just want to see you all back safely next month ready to celebrate the community in the east of Singapore. For families leaving the School, always keep in touch, you will always be part of the family. If you notice new faces when we are all back at school, let them know about the NPG and walk them over for a visit to the NPG Lounge.
Merry Christmas!

President, Nexus Parent Group
The NPG is an independent group within the school community. Its mission is to develop this community to the benefit of our learners. The NPG ‘s work is organised through the NPG Committee, which comprises an Executive of five elected office bearers, and a number of general committee members. The NPG has two main goals: to provide parents with a platform through which to start conversations and provide feedback to the school – to be “a voice of the parents”, and to offer a range of social, cultural and special interest events that support a close-knit and connected learning community. We welcome all volunteers to become involved in our activities, with the main aim of developing our school’s community. Every parent and guardian is a member of the NPG and our ideas and input are welcomed. We can be easily contacted via email or Facebook: npg@nexus.edu.sg https://www.facebook.com/groups/nexusparentgroup/
