Nexus Cross Country - 8 to 10 December 2020

Next week, all of our Year 3 to 9 learners will take part in an Inter-house Cross Country run, around the school campus. This will be an opportunity for all learners to 'have a go' and challenge themselves. Primary learners will run 1.5km and secondary learners, 2.2km. The focus of the event will be on participation in a fun and encouraging environment, whilst also allowing learners who enjoy running to have a competitive experience. Children have had an opportunity to practise their running and pacing in HPE, in preparation for the event. Please note that spectators are limited to staff and learners only, due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Date: Tuesday 8th December: Year 4 - 6

Wednesday 9th December: Year 7-9

Thursday 10th December: Year 3

Venue: Around the Nexus School site

Spectators: Learners and staff only (due to Covid-19 restrictions)

Please ensure your child/ward has the following equipment on the day:

  • Learners should come to school wearing their house t-shirt. Alternatively, a plain t-shirt of the correct colour may be used (if you do not know your house please contact learner services/your tutor can tell you?). If neither is available, a school HPE shirt can be worn.

  • Black HPE shorts

  • Suitable running shoes/ trainers

  • Hat and sun block

  • A suitable refillable water bottle

  • Learners may also choose to show their house spirit by wearing wigs, caps or face paint in their house colour

  • School uniform to change into, in case of wet weather.

We look forward to seeing all of our Year 3-9 learners showing their house spirit in the first Inter-house event of the year!

Swimming Is Back! Olympic Games Singapore Time Trials, OCBC Aquatic Centre

The Nexus Swim Team is one of the largest teams attending the 'Olympic Games Singapore Time Trials' this week, the first swim meet to be back up and running in Singapore.

Our Nexus stars competed through the fist two days of competitions with great success. The big win by Carmen Weiler Sastre (Year 11) who swam impressively in the field by winning both heats and finals. Carmen also managed to over-take a famous National Swimmer, Quah Ting Wen. She broke the 55 seconds (54.98) barrier which got Carmen close to the Olympic Qualifying time. However, her superb result has given her ticket into the European Championships in May 2021.

Over the coming days, we have an abundance of races to get through and to see impressive swims by our Nexus swimmers. A massive thank you to the Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) for putting together such an amazing meet after 11 months of no competition. It’s a step back to normality for our sport.
