NEXUS Beats is back! With 19 bands and learners from Y5 to 13. On Thursday 5th May our Auditorium will be rockin' so don't miss out.
We kick off at 5pm, doors open from 4.45pm. An email will be shared as tickets will be required for this ever popular Nexus event.
'The Year of the Tiger' will bring some roaring classics that are sure to get toes tapping, hands clapping and perhaps a little boogie in the audience too. With restrictions now lifted audience participation is strongly encouraged.
This event is largely Learner Led where learners have prepared their own performances, created logos and band names and have been rehearsing for weeks. Our music department has certainly been buzzing with activity daily.
Gamelan
Our first ever Gamelan music ensemble at Nexus International School
9-11 May
What is Gamelan?
Gamelan, the term for a traditional musical ensemble in Indonesia, typically refers to a percussion orchestra composed predominantly of tuned gongs of various types and metal-keyed instruments. The ensemble is conducted by a drummer, and often includes voice, bamboo flute, xylophone, and stringed instruments.
What will we be doing?
Nexus will host a two-day workshop where learners will be introduced to the different instruments in a Javanese gamelan ensemble as well as basic techniques of playing gamelan. The main focus of the workshop is playing and making music together as a team. Learners will also learn more about the significance of gamelan in cultivating a cultural identity in South East Asia. The programme will be conducted by 2 instructors.
MADD week will be running for both Primary and Secondary learners.
Workshops for secondary will run Monday to Thursday 8.20am - 10.20am. Learners will attend different workshops each day.
Primary workshops have more flexible days and timings.
