Our youngest learners are increasing challenges and reading instructions on the mats with letters, numbers and animal pictures. Kindergarten have moved out of the FUN room for the last term and are outside improving their spatial awareness and looking at the different roles they can do in modified games.
Learners in Year 1 and 2 are focusing on communication in their adventure challenge units, as well as cooperation and different roles. Learners in Year 4 and 5 are enjoying their movement composition unit through gymnastics. Starting with balances, rotations and inversions. Learners in Year 3 are continuing with basketball, dribbling, small sided games, passing and moving. Year 6 are experiencing concepts through physical activity that will help them with their exhibition.
Research has shown there is a link between exercise and memory capacity of our hippocampus, which is primarily associated with memory and learning. Swimming is a key movement activity to develop overall brain and physical functions in the early years.
Water itself is therapeutic in nature. Being in the water, having fun with other learners, while learning at a gentle and gradual pace, provides each learner with their mental and social emotional needs.
