What an incredible start to our Instrumental Programme at Nexus with over 125 young musicians getting on board and wanting to learn an instrument. We have received fabulous feedback from parents, learners and teachers and pleased that our programme launch has been a great success.
Our Instrumental Music Programme is designed to help develop your child's passion and skills, in all stages of their musical journey. Additional instrumental lessons can help improve academic course work, build social skills when joining an ensemble or band and build confidence through performance.
Visiting instrumental teachers support both curricular and extra-curricular music at school by helping learners prepare for recitals, examinations and participating in extra-curricular groups.
We have successfully recruited instrumental teachers who come with a breadth of musical talent and education experience. Our teachers work part-time at Nexus during the school day and are often working musicians across Singapore and Asia during their evenings and weekends. Many of our teachers also teach within other internationally recognised schools in Singapore. I am very pleased to be able to introduce the following; (please click on the link for each teachers bio).

Tim Hammerson - Piano and Jazz Piano
Brendan de Souza - Drum Kit
Fabian Lim - Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone
Dylan Foster - Vocals

Throughout the academic year, we will host Music performances for our young musicians. We aim to be able to provide over the year a suitable platform for all ages and abilities to aid with stage presence, experience and confidence. Some events may be performing as a soloist, others as part of a small ensemble. We will have formal concerts to parents, as well as informal performances; to learners performing in assembly or busking in the bus bay. All of our events are published in the school events calendar and further details will be posted in our newsletters.
Here are a couple of key dates coming up:
As part of Diversity we will have a range of informal performance opportunities throughout the school day. We are aiming to have Busking in the School Bus Bay before and after school as well as more formal performances in our school canteen during lunch. Further information regarding these events will be available nearer the time however it is important that our musicians are provided with enough notice in which to prepare polished performances so that they are ready and confident. Any age or ability is welcome to celebrate Diversity through performance.
All of our Secondary Music ensembles will be showcasing their musical talents in a very special 'Moon' Concert. Guitar group, Orchestra, Secondary Choir and Chamber Choir will lead the performances. Year 8 will also perform and our ever important Tech Team will be on hand all evening. Our Halloween Concert last year was a spectacular evening and this year's concert promises to launch you into Space and take you on a Galaxy Adventure.
For our musicians who have lessons as part of the Nexus Instrumental Programme we will be hosting 3 soloist recitals throughout the year. October, January and May.
Our first recital will be split Primary (1.30-3pm) and Secondary (4-5.30pm). Instrumental teachers have been informed of these dates and they will be discussing whether this performance opportunity will be of interest to your child and if they are ready at this time within the year.
The recitals aim to provide a formal platform stage for young musicians to showcase their skills as well as gain confidence to perform in front of others. We hope this will be a positive experience for our performers.
The January Recital will be open for any learner taking a Trinity or ABRSM exam.
May's Recital will run similar to the October recitals.
'Singing Stars (Year 1 - 2 Choir)' will be back in Terms 3 and 4 - January 2020 and this will run until a few weeks before the end of the school year. Sign-ups will be available during the first few weeks of January. We will be looking forward to working with our young singers then!
