12&U Boys Basketball Go Down in a Nail Biter Against AIS

In a nail-biter, our Nexus 12&U Boys Basketball team went down to the Australian International School 22-24. In one of the hardest fought battles I’ve seen, Nexus displayed commitment, grit and a desire to win the ball. Every player displayed signs of growth and contributed towards the teams' success. A special mention goes to Sungbin, who never stopped the whole time he was on the court. He is growing in confidence and shows a real desire to help his team rebound and clear the ball. Sem, in his first game, displayed relentless defending and some great drives towards the basket. Andy showed great desire for the ball, he never stopped applying pressure on the opposition and often stole the ball from them. "I'm really looking forward to the next game boys!"

12&U Girls Basketball Dominate Singapore American School

What an excellent game of basketball by all the girls in our 12U Basketball team. Nexus proved to be way too strong for Singapore American School, beating them 43-13. The team really impressed on how they have bounced back from a big defeat. They are even more keen and hungry to play great team basketball. So many parts of our game are starting to come together.

Maisie continues to display strength, timing and an ever increasing, smart court sense. Holly’s desire to get every ball, every rebound and every loose ball was an inspiration to the rest of the team. Sienna and Samantha continue to grow in confidence, looking to drive, shoot and move at any opportunity to create smart space. Ashley continues to show great determination and commitment towards ensuring that she clears all rebounds, to get us out of trouble without turning the ball over. Isla is developing into a very keen and aware point guard, who quickly assesses the situation and looks for the best possible passing options. Ayra is quickly becoming our main shooting force, hardly missing a shot from anywhere! Nanda has grown into the team cheerleader, statistician and chief riddle solver.

11&U Boys Football On Track To Claim ACSIS Title

The U11 Boys will go into the last tournament and finals as a squad that exhibits confidence, pace and skill. Our record this season stands at Played 15 - Won 14 Lost 1. Our 52 goals scored - 6 goals conceded reflects an attacking side that is organised and well rehearsed at set pieces. The most pleasing aspect to Nexus U11 boys play is the sense of commitment and demonstration of fair, modest play. We look forward to watching their continued growth as a team unit, the development of further support for each other and collaboration.

Ambassador From the Kingdom of Netherlands Presents Special Award to Nexus Swimmer

This week, we welcomed the Dutch Ambassador, Margriet Vonno, to our school. She was here to present a certificate to one of our learners, Emiel van Oord, who recently took part in the National Age Group Swimming Championships in his home country, the Netherlands. The Championships were held in December 2017, just a few days after the Feeding Frenzy International Swim Meet in Bangkok, which Emiel took part in as well. Over the 3-day Championships, Emiel competed against many strong swimmers in his age group. The atmosphere of the venue and his courage helped him to produce outstanding performances.

Emiel's Results:

  • GOLD in the boy’s 50m Breaststroke
  • GOLD in the boy’s 200m Breaststroke
  • GOLD in the boy’s 50m Freestyle
  • GOLD in the boy’s 100m Breaststroke

14&U Girls Volleyball Team Keep Their ACSIS Division 1 Medal Hopes Alive With Strong Win Over ACSI

Our ACSIS Division 1 Volleyballers stood strong in a grueling encounter with Anglo-Chinese International School mid-week. Nexus, needing to win to keep medal hopes alive, we focussed from the start and determined to their season alive. Strong serving displays from Hannah Feldhausen, Isha Rayarel and Regina Sanchez Pulido set up a blistering first set from Nexus - winning 25-13. The second set proved much the same with excellent team serving efficiency from all 11 players. Ball control was also evident as was the team unity amongst this group of girls. Nexus taking out the second set, and the match, convincingly 2-0 (25-13, 25-15). The team will now face modern rival, Singapore American School, in a tough away match to make the medal round.

14&U Netballers Close In On Title

Over the past two weeks our 14 & under netball team have continued their success with two more wins; against Tanglin Trust School and St Joseph’s Institution International. Our most recent game against St Joseph’s challenged our team in many ways. The opposition played a consistently high standard of netball and put pressure on Nexus from the very first whistle. Often challenges bring out the best in people and that is exactly what happened to our team. Every Nexus player supported each other and literally ‘put their body on the line’, to ensure that we kept possession of the ball. Over the last few weeks we have discussed and practised throwing the ball into space and adjusting our passes to avoid a defending player or interceptions. It was fantastic to see this in action while playing St Joseph’s. Every player was more aware of the space available to pass into and made quick decisions. This resulted in flow throughout the court and quick dynamic play. Even though Nexus won 30-10, we never relaxed, as St Joseph’s were consistent and determined. Congratulations to all of our team on a game you can be very proud of. We look forward to playing against CIS next Thursday, who are currently second in our division.
