From the Head of Primary

Lots has been happening over the last two weeks. This has included a fun-filled trip for the Year 1 learners to West Coast Park; the fabulous Year 3 Upcycling Fair; the Run for Hope; and yesterday we hosted students and teachers from the Trung Vuong School of Vietnam. The visitors were joined by two researchers from the Singapore National Institute of Education. Our learners were thrilled to share with their new friends what makes Nexus a unique school. Particualar thanks to Chip and Brian who were fantastic translators.

Do take a look at the 'Recent Events' section for photos. In addition, we have been told that our constructors at our new Aljunied campus have completed the piling (500 of them to be exact!) and have begun the construction of the first floor (the home of Years 1 and 2)! They estimate that the building will develop at an amazing pace, with one floor completed each month! For further details of our new campus click here.

The next two weeks in Primary School is a wonderfully exciting time!

On Friday, 2 February we have our extremely popular Learning Conferences. We look forward to welcoming all families to explore the learning journeys that your children are on. Please note that the Primary School will be CLOSED to allow for the conferences to take place. You can find out full details of the day by clicking here and book your starting time through the Parent Portal. Bookings will close Monday, 29 January at noon. A Learning Conference session takes approximately 60 minutes for each child so please book accordingly. If you have more than one child, you may wish to attend school with one child at a time so that you can fully focus on their learning journey. We also strongly recommend that younger siblings do not attend. Prior to the Learning Conferences, you will find it useful to have read your child’s Semester 1 Learning Summary that was issued in December via the parent portal. Finally, as part of the conferences your children will be showing some of their skills learnt in HPE, so we are asking all learners to wear their HPE kits. You may like to wear comfortable clothes and join them too!

In addition the superb Art Splash 2018! Primary Art Exhibition takes place from Wednesday to Friday next week. Do take some time out to view all the learners' wonderful work. The Exhibition is open every day and your children will take you on a guided tour as part of the Learning Conferences on Friday.

The week after, we celebrate Chinese New Year in real style! Year 6 will kick of the celebration with their stunning production of 'The Voyages of Cheng Ho'. Tickets will be made available to Year 6 families today and to the rest of the school community from Monday. Further activities and events will take place at the end of the week, including the Lion and Dragon Dance at 2.30pm on Friday, 9 February in the Sports Hall - do come along and join us! See the 'Upcoming Events' section for further details. Thank you in advance to all our parents that have offered to help and to share elements of the culture with the learners.

Wishing you a lovely weekend and I very much look forward to seeing you all in school over the next couple of weeks to enjoy these wonderful events.

Best regards,

Paul.
