Dear Parents and Caregivers
As term 3 has started to draw to a close I have taken a moment to reflect on how much we as a community have achieved this year. Starting the academic year wearing masks feels like a dim and distant memory now. I am delighted there have been so many different opportunities to open our doors to the community, to share and celebrate together. Thank you for all your participation, whether it has been attending celebrations, supporting a school trip, enjoying an assembly, helping your child get ready for a residential visit or taking part in a mini exhibition (to name but a few). We are moving towards becoming that empowered, collaborative learning community we seek to be.
A particular thank you to all the families that were able to join us for the Learning Conferences last week. The school came alive as children explained their learning and reflected on their next steps. It was great to see so many families take the opportunity to visit the Single Subject Specialist areas. We offer a full comprehensive curriculum here at Nexus and are very proud of the additional specialist areas we are able to offer. All curriculum areas are compulsory for all learners including PHE and swimming.
I mention swimming specifically as we are beginning to notice an increase in the number of learners coming to school without their swimming kit. We regard swimming as a very important skill. Unless a learner has a medical certificate they must be ready to attend their swimming lesson. Learning to swim is important for several reasons:
Safety: The ability to swim is a valuable life skill that can help prevent drowning and other water-related accidents. Knowing how to swim can help you stay safe in and around water. This is even more important here in Singapore, with so many beaches and swimming pools around us at all times.
Health and Fitness: Swimming is a great form of exercise that can improve cardiovascular health, build strength, and increase endurance. It is a low-impact activity making it a great option for children (and adults) of all ages and fitness levels.
Recreation and Enjoyment: Swimming is a fun activity that can be enjoyed with friends and family. Whether children are swimming laps or playing water games, it can be a great way to relax and have fun together.
Confidence: Learning to swim can give children a sense of confidence and accomplishment. Overcoming a fear of water or mastering a new skill can help boost their self-esteem and give them a sense of empowerment.
We would appreciate your support in ensuring your child is ready to take part in their swimming lessons. Thank you.
Our book character dress-up day is always one of my favourite of the year, with today being no exception - so many wonderful outfits, fabulous characters and interesting books. Thank you for your support. Please take a look at our Recent Events tab for some photos of the events. Our News from the Year Groups this week is also connected to Book Week with a focus in reading.
Finally a gentle reminder that from Term 4 we will be expecting all learners to be wearing the correct school uniform - including closed toe shoes and hoodies. Please see the Important Notices tab for more information.
Best wishes
