Hand Foot and Mouth Disease
As you will have understood from the main newsletter we are seeing an increase in the number of Hand Foot and Mouth (HFMD) cases across primary.
We have arranged for a deep clean of the learning spaces and, as always, are remaining vigilant for further cases.
Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years of age. However, it can sometimes occur in older children and adults. The virus is spread by breathing in airborne droplets from the infected person and is usually a mild illness.
The incubation period for HFMD is 3-5 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms of HFMD may last for 7-10 days, and include fever, sore throat, rash / blister- like sores which appear on the palms of the hands, soles of feet and throat. The affected person may experience loss of appetite and malaise.
If you suspect your child of having any of the above symptoms, please contact your family doctor as soon as possible to confirm a diagnosis, and then inform the school of the confirmed diagnosis.
There is no vaccine and no specific treatment for Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, except rest at home until fully recovered, and prevention of spread with good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette. The child will need to be kept at home until declared medically fit to return to school by a medical practitioner.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact the School Nurses or your family doctor.
Your child’s Semester 2 Learning Summary will be published the the final week of this term. You will be able to view via the Parent Portal on Engage. To access the Parent Portal you will need your unique login and password provided to you by Learner Services.
Please take time to read the information provided on the first two pages as it will help you to better understand the content of the Learning Summary and share its contents with your child.
For learners leaving at the end of this term, do note that you will need to view/download your child's Learning Summary before your Parent Portal account closes.
Lost and Found
We have quite a bit of lost property waiting to be found by its rightful owner!
Water bottles, caps, uniforms, clothes, swim bags, and similar items will be displayed on the level 2 walkway, near the Grand Staircase just outside the Aquatics Gym, from next week.
Valuable items (EZ link cards, air pods, jewelry, watches, glasses, calculators, keyboards, to name just a few!) will be kept safe at Learner Services, so if you think your child/ward has lost one of these items please email us at learnerservices@nexus.edu.sg or ask your child/ward to come and take a look.
We hope we can reunite as many items as possible with their rightful owners!
Please note that we will donate to charity anything that hasn’t been claimed.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Warm regards,
Learner Services
