On Friday May 17th, we celebrated the graduation of our 45 Year 13 learners from IBDP. The ceremony, included inspiring speeches, certificate presentations, music ensembles and CAS awards. The event concluded with a special reception, where graduates, families and teachers shared in the celebration. We are all so proud of our amazing graduates and wish them well for the future. Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
We were serenaded by the beautiful sounds of our Nexus Musicians last week in our annual Instrumental Recitals. Three recitals took place in the Auditorium involving learners from Y1 through to Y13. The performances showcased the range of musical talent we have at Nexus and our audiences were mightily impressed. Performing in the recital is a valuable musical experience, fostering confidence and performance skills. It allows our musicians to showcase their hard work and talent, promoting a sense of achievement. The experience enhances stage presence, self-discipline, and time management.
Well done to all our budding musicians who performed - you are all musical superstars!Â
Why learn an instrument?
Learning a musical instrument enhances cognitive abilities like memory, attention, and problem-solving. It fosters discipline, patience, and perseverance through practice. Playing an instrument boosts creativity and emotional expression, offering a stress outlet. Socially, it connects people through bands and orchestras, promoting teamwork and communication. Mastering an instrument provides a sense of achievement and confidence, with benefits extending beyond music to personal and academic life.
At the beginning of May, our Year 12 CAS learners embarked on their CAS Expeditions. All three trips shared similar objectives, and gave our learners lifelong memories and friendships. Each provided unforgettable opportunities to challenge themselves, to build connections with local communities and develop ongoing, sustainable projects that will make a genuine difference to people's lives.Â
The learners are excited to be able to share their experiences with the learners in year 7-9 in this Friday's assembly. We are very proud of all that they have achieved and how they have supported each other through the experiences too.

As a community, it is our duty to ensure we educate learners about how to behave online. To protect our learners in school we use software that enables us to filter and protect learners from harmful content whilst on our wifi. We work with learners to help them understand their digital footprint and what constitutes acceptable use and know that many of you also support this at home. Our learners complete the ‘IT Use Policy’ when they join the school and we address digital citizenship in our PSHE lessons and tutor time activities.
Social media can be great when used well, however, we know there are many different platforms, that not all use is constructive and that at times learners can use these to hurt others. Common platforms are TikTok, Snapchat, Discord and Instagram and as parents there are some useful parent guides provided by Common Sense Media at this link. Many of our parents find the 'Life360' app a useful tool as it provides tailored plans to fit your family's needs, such a parental controls to switch off access to certain apps and the ability to set up timed periods where an app cannot be used.Â
We would also like to share the slides from our Year 7, 8, 9 assembly as this could be an opportunity to discuss your child's online activities and establish clear guidelines and boundaries regarding their use of social media platforms.Â
By staying actively involved in their digital lives, you can help mitigate the risks associated with cyberbullying and promote a safer and more positive online environment for all.
