I'd like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to the exert below from the Primary Parent Learner Handbook regarding our First Aid Centre and the need to keep children at home during certain times.
If Learner Services or school nurse call you during the day and advise you your child is unwell and needs picking up please ensure they are collected promptly, please do not wait until the end of the work day. If you are unable to collect your child it is expected that you will arrange another adult to collect them and look after them for you.
Learners from Nursery - Year 4 cannot be put in a taxi or allowed to leave without an adult, they need to be collected from school by a responsible adult.
If a learner is too ill to be in lessons they are also too ill to ride the school bus home and alternative arrangements will need to be made by you to get them home safely.
Our nurses are a busy team, but always willing to help in any way they can, if you have any medical related information you would like to share with them, please do - nurse@nexus.edu.sg
Medical Matters
Nexus has a First Aid Centre with on-site school nurses, who are well qualified to attend to medical issues during the school day. The nursing team is also available to provide information and education to parents and teachers on health related issues of relevance to the Nexus community. The nursing team provides additional support for families with allergies and/or medical conditions.
We are once again noticing an increase in the number of learners coming to school without their swimming kit.
We regard swimming as a very important skill. Unless a learner has a medical certificate they must be ready to attend their swimming lesson. Learning to swim is important for several reasons:
Safety: The ability to swim is a valuable life skill that can help prevent drowning and other water-related accidents. Knowing how to swim can help you stay safe in and around water. This is even more important here in Singapore, with so many beaches and swimming pools around us at all times.
Health and Fitness: Swimming is a great form of exercise that can improve cardiovascular health, build strength, and increase endurance. It is a low-impact activity making it a great option for children (and adults) of all ages and fitness levels.
Recreation and Enjoyment: Swimming is a fun activity that can be enjoyed with friends and family. Whether children are swimming laps or playing water games, it can be a great way to relax and have fun together.
Confidence: Learning to swim can give children a sense of confidence and accomplishment. Overcoming a fear of water or mastering a new skill can help boost their self-esteem and give them a sense of empowerment.
We would appreciate your support in ensuring your child is ready to take part in their swimming lessons.
Primary Parent Learner Handbook
Physical and Health Education
All learners in the Primary School are offered a fully inclusive, active and stimulating PHE curriculum. The PHE curriculum has foci such as Invasion games, Outdoor adventurous activities, Gymnastics, Athletics, Swimming, Dance and Health and Fitness. Learners work individually and within teams during these sessions. All learners learn the core skills of balance, coordination and physical conditioning. Nexus learners also engage in learning the value of teamwork and sportsmanship during their PHE lessons. All learners in the Primary School have a weekly swimming lesson.
Please note that PHE and Swimming lessons are compulsory. Learners who are unable to participate must have a medical certificate and will be expected to take a different role in the lesson (eg: timer, evaluator, team manager).
Please note that the deadline to sign up for Season 2 CCAs is 12 noon on Monday, 20th November.

Important notes:
Before making requests, please consider those activities in which your child is already involved. Please note, learners in Kindergarten are allocated only one CCA activity and those in Years 1 and 2 a maximum of two CCA activities. This reflects the fact that learners in the Early Years are generally very tired after a long day at school and we are keen to ensure that they have a suitable balance.
Requesting a place does not guarantee that your child will be allocated to the activity. Once Phase 1 activity requests are made, the system will make initial allocations based on your expressed preference(s), where 1 is the highest and 4 the lowest. We do our best to provide all learners with at least one CCA activity, but it is important that you or your child select two or three activities in case their first preference is oversubscribed.
As with all SchoolsBuddy sign ups, please note, learners in Years 5 to 13 must log in as themselves using their Nexus Google Single Sign On. For younger learners (Kindergarten to Year 4), parents or guardians should sign into the system using their own login details. Should you have any questions, please check out our microsite for Frequently Asked Questions or contact one of our team.
Please note, there will be no CCA activities on Friday, 8th December (Christmas Fair) and during the last week of school, 11th - 15th December.
Here is the link to sign up for CCA / Activity buses once you have confirmation that they have been allocated.
