Dear Parents and Guardians
Welcome to the new academic year. We are delighted to have Nexus full of learners as our community continues to grow. It has been wonderful to watch learners catch up with friends and make new friends as they start the new academic year. Although we are working within the confines of the safe management measures learning spaces are being used to build those all important relationships that support and underpin successful learning. Please read on to see the news from the year groups to see what has been happening in the first two weeks.
As everyone adapts to the school routines and timings please be reminded learners need to be in their learning space ready to start lessons at 08:20, to facilitate this they can arrive on site any time from 08:00, enabling them to get to their learning space on time. We would also like to draw your attention to the Important Notices. Please make sure you have recorded the Learning Conferences on your calendar. There are two of these each year and they are our opportunities for you to discuss learning and engagement with your child's teachers. Our learning conferences, reports and learning summaries enable you to be part of your child's academic journey and to celebrate the progress they are making. Our aim is to include you in school life as much as possible without filling your inbox all of the time.
There are some key communication tools we use in school to share what is happening in our Nexus community. Please make sure you've connected to these...
Facebook Page (click here) - a space where we celebrate all that is happening in the Nexus community.
Parent Zone (click here) - a one-stop place to find all the key information you need about life at Nexus. Whether it is viewing the school events calendar; finding out about our CCA, Music and Sport programmes; viewing details of our school residential trips and more... This is the place to get all the practical information you will need about school life.
Primary School: SeeSaw - we offer a ‘window into the classroom’ via the SeeSaw App. This is the regular ongoing communication method we will use to share news and home learning from Primary School. If you need some help to set up the app, please email our IT team. Primary timetables will be shared on SeeSaw next week.
Secondary School: Canvas - for home learning and information regarding latest learning. Learners are using this now and more will be shared with parents soon.
And of course, our fortnightly Newsletters will also be full of exciting news. As well as this front page that has our 'live' calendar displayed below, we have a range of other sections to look out for. These sections can be accessed from the menu across the top of the screen (on large screens such as laptops and iPads) or the 'triple bar' icon on the top left (on small screens, eg: phones). The Newsletter sections include:
Important Announcements
Upcoming and Recent Events
Arts and Sports & CCA News
As we start the academic year, it is always a time when the school comes together to celebrate learners in our Secondary School who have completed their IB Diploma and IGCSE examinations. We were delighted to receive the best ever IB Diploma (Year 13) results to date with an average point score of 37. Forty percent of the learners scored 40 or more points and 69% of all grades awarded were 6 or 7. The learners worked so hard to achieve some outstanding outcomes in challenging circumstances and we are proud of them all and wish them well for their future studies and careers.
After such an extraordinary start to the year we want to acknowledge and appreciate the hard work of our teachers and staff in welcoming our learners online, and then safely back into campus. The current regulations do not allow us to invite families into school. Therefore, we are running a Virtual Welcome Evening, please see the 'Upcoming Events' tab. We look forward to seeing you online then.
