Together with our Year 13 learners, we planned and designed three different graduation events in total to work within the changing government rules during the current pandemic. The final version was hosted by graduates Karolina and Paloma online on June 4th. The event featured invited speakers and awards presented for Innovation, CAS, Academics and to recognise those of us who have been incredible team players, bringing everyone together in the year group. The online platform allowed for so many to express their thoughts which they may not have had the opportunity to otherwise. It was a special occasion and we are so proud of our graduates. We look forward to hearing more about what they do next as they move on to life after Nexus.
Restrictions and lockdown could not stop the Year 6 PYP Exhibition. Individuals Grow By Challenging Their Personal Limits' was the overarching central idea.
Please take the time to get a taste of what our Year 6 learners inquired into through our Exhibition website. You will be able to see a reflective art piece and a statement sharing the trials and successes of their exhibition journey.
There are also presentations, performances and other elements to view.
Well done to all those who have embraced another Climbathon challenge in support of a community in Nepal. On Wednesday, learners throughout the school set themselves active challenges to raise sponsorship money for the charity Pipal Tree.
Over the past five years, the Nexus community has supported the charity in their mission to develop education in more rural communities as well as empowering and offering training to women. We have helped make a difference to the lives of many. Our learners reflected on how lucky we are to have the opportunities and education that we do and came together to support those communities in Nepal.
All sponsorship money and donations can be made directly to the charity using the link and QR code below.
Virtual Primary Art Exhibition
This year our annual Art Splash Primary Exhibition was unable to take place in person due to the COVID restrictions. However, the fantastic Visual Art team has worked hard to transform it into a digital art exhibition instead!
We have showcased a range of artwork from every learner across the Primary School and we encourage all our Primary learners to share their artworks and knowledge with family and friends.
A wide range of artwork is on display including textiles from Year 6, collage from Year 5, ceramic creations from Year 4, Aboriginal inspired art from Year 3, Picasso inspired artwork from Year 2, a range of tactile explorations from Year 1, colourful three dimensional cakes from Kindergarten and a wonderful range of exploratory artworks from our youngest Nursery learners.
Please join us in celebrating the creative achievements of our learners by visiting the Art Splash website Art Splash 2021 Primary Virtual Art Exhibition.
Congratulations to all of our Visual Art learners for their continued passion and enthusiasm and for contributing to such a vibrant display of learning.
Yesterday we said farewell to Mr Paul in a very colourful way. There was lots of glitter, unicorns, wigs, hats, rainbows and big smiles on-campus and off. We even got to present Mr Paul with his own set of Nexus postcards.
Thanks to the Year 7 learners, staff across both Primary and Secondary and parents that were involved in The Year 6 - 7 Transition Day last Friday. It was a day filled with everything from explosions in Science to hilarious limericks in English. There were so many highlights from the day but it's hard to go past the penpal meets where Year 7 learners led Q & A sessions with the Year 6 learners in breakout rooms reflecting on their journey from the last year and all the useful information they wish they had known before moving into secondary. By the end of the day we had a very confident and comfortable group of Year 6 learners (and some mums and dads too) ready to make the leap to secondary next year. We can’t wait to welcome you all to Floor 11 West next year.

Last week Year 12’s enjoyed aa a talk from Ryan Ng at Linkedin, as part of their PSHE Programme. Ryan focused on the future of the jobs market and skills employers are looking for. It was very informative and current, considering the impacts of Covid 19 and technology. Thanks Ryan, it gives is all something to think about!
We have a world record holder in our Nexus community. Adrian Bennett, a father of two Nexus Learners, has recently broken the record for the world's longest Triathlon by running, swimming and cycling a massive 7519.67 km. This attempt started on the 1st November 2020 and he finally crossed the finish line on 8th May 2021.
The original plan was to break the record in a trip across Asia ending in Singapore but this all had to be changed because of the Covid situation. This did not put him off! He changed his plans to do it all here in Singapore. The previous record stood at 6,952km. To break this he planned to start with a 1,420km run, followed by a 5,800km cycle and ending with a 225km swim. Doing this in Singapore had its challenges. Instead of one trip starting each day where you stopped the day before, Adrian had to do it in lots of sections. Cycling around the island over and over, or running up and down East Coast park daily. One of the particular difficulties he faced was the swim. It had to be done in open water and a continuous course, not a loop, meaning he swam in the sea off East Coast Park for 225 km. The rules of the event meant he had to start in the same location he ended the session before meaning he would often end up at the opposite end of the park to where he started. Doing a lot of it on his own and not having a support crew, apart from his wife Kim and his boys of course, he would often find himself at the opposite end of the park from home with no way to get back. This means Adrian is now an expert on the locations of the bikes for hire in and around East Coast Park!
Adrian attempted this record for raising awareness for his family's charity, Practical Action, to better himself as an endurance athlete, and to be a good role model for his two young children.
Adrian says “I want to inspire people to follow their dreams and make and achieve their goals. As well as living a healthy life!”
Congratulations on this amazing achievement Adrian.
