One of our awesome Year 8 learners, Orla, organised today's fundraiser. The money donated will go to Singapore's Epilepsy Care Group! To raise awareness among our Nexus community, Orla requested Nexus learners to bring $2 and come dressed in their Pjs or festive clothes. Here are some fun photos of the day!
Last Friday, our little learners from Kindergarten to Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic Christmas Pantomime titled "Cinderel Lah!" staged by our long term theatre partner - EVOLVE. Our learners were so excited to experience such a special treat (the first ever 'performance' to grace our auditorium since we've moved in to our new campus!). Many of the children were sitting on the edge of their seats throughout the performance!
The second annual Year 8 Poetry Slam was held in the auditorium on Tuesday morning, the culmination of studying poetry in their recent English classes. There were confident performances from our Year 8 learners, who all got up on stage and took the mic to perform in front of their peers. There was a range of entertaining yet insightful and meaningful poems, covering a range of topics such as the environment, technology, identity, and even the Nexus teachers! Learners and teachers alike were wowed by the strong messages of the poems, the skilful rhyming, and even some impressive rap stylings.
Congratulations to our winners:
8B - Olivia Deng
8G - Annabel Bevan and Tilda Philpott
8W - Lina Bridaa and Leonore Lebard
And further congratulations to our runners-up:
Ben Dougan, Leonor Silva, Hitomi Shiraishi, Trishan Biswas, Sebastian Lage-Paily, Poppy Carter, Carrie Harrington, Sophie Fleming, Luke Clement, Xavier Bogie-Keyede, Alexander Foo, Josephine Reichert, Isabel Jefferson, Orla Stark, Alice Adeney, Kristen Chan, Josie Caron, Elena Bangs, Maria Fernandes, and Gracie Laffey
All learners did a fantastic job and should be extremely proud of both the poems they have written and their performances. Well done!
Our Year 6 learners have been busy with their chosen charities in the lead up to the end of term!
Shoe Drive:
Our Year 6 learners, Kevin, Finlay and Fisher held a shoe drive as part of their 'Taking Action' project, working with local shoe retailer Ten Feet Tall! Over the last 2 weeks, they invited our families to clear their shoe cupboard and bring any unwanted but still usable shoes to school this week.
With your help, they were able to collect an amazing amount of shoes to people from all over the world who really need them. Thank you for helping them make more feet happy this Christmas!
Food Drive:
You might have seen Harry and Kaspar's Food Drive that took place in school this week! As part of their Year 6 'Taking Action' initiative they requested our Nexus community to donate non-perishable food items and the response was fantastic!
Thank you for supporting our learners take action to help food insecurity in Singapore by feeding a household in need this Christmas.
