With something for everyone, the Holly Jolly Nexus Fair was held on the 2nd December. An accumulation of weeks of hard work by the parent volunteers to bring the spirit of the festive season.
The magic began at 9am when the younger learners were invited into the grotto to listen to Christmas stories and decorate the trees. Santa’s shopping street opened at 11am in the MPH where parents shopped for presents from external vendors and the book and toy drive. The festive vibes continued throughout the day with the kindergarteners sing-a-long and the primary Christmas Ensemble concert where parents jingle bell rocked to some tunes, to learner ballet recitals and musician showcases.
After school the festivities began, there was so much on offer - delicious parent baked goods, face painting, activities and games. The lines to dunk Mr Lachlan which ended up as an ice bucket challenge, kids playing on the field with giant inflatables, carnival games and the PE team running Christmas games. Cookie decorating, crafting crackers and beautifully made cards.
Not to forget the big man himself Santa. With one swift wave, Elsa converted our level 3 Eduvation hub into a winter wonderland. Children were busily posting their letters to Santa, getting tattoos and colouring before entering Santa’s grotto where he checked if they were on the naughty or nice list.
Our learners set up stalls for their respective charitable organisations. There were games, cookie decorating, cards and items for sale.
It was great to see all aspects of the Nexus community coming together from parents, teachers and learners as well as external community such as inviting the Ice Cream uncle in. Once the NCG funds are replenished to fund future events, excess funds will be set aside for the charity to be decided.
With many thank yous to firstly the Christmas committee and our volunteers, whom without their support, we would not have been able to put on this event, run activities or ensure we did not have packs of hangry children!

On Thursday, 8 December Nexus Community Group hosted parents for our first adults only evening out. It was a smashing success with about 20 parents from KG to Y9 represented. We enjoyed drinks and snacks at OSG Suntec City and even sent three people home with prize giveaways!
We hope to make this a more regular event. It's always open to all Nexus parents/caregivers/staff, so please join in the fun next time!
Do you have a skill to share? Or a skill you want to pick up? Want to learn or practice a new language?
Beginning in the new year on 17th January, come join us to share your knowledge or learn something new. Extending from typical a language exchange, the skills exchange aims to encourage continuous learning amongst us parents, and sharing. As we all know we were great at or did something before we moved to Singapore.
As a DP it can be very challenging to keep yourself engaged and this is what this exchange aims to do. From sewing a skirt, learning a language, or sharing a cool new trick, app or website you discovered that made your life easier. Get in touch.

This week we’d like to introduce Tais
“Hello! My name is Taís and I’ve just joined the NCG. I’m Brazilian and have moved here with my husband Julio and my sons Arthur (year 6) and Thomas (year 4) after 18 years in England. We arrived in Singapore just 9 months ago as the restrictions were being lifted and I was lucky enough to get involved in some NCG volunteering straight away.
I’m loving exploring Singapore, its food, its languages, its culture, history and traditions.
As an NCG member, I would like to help new parents by setting up a Family Buddy Programme.
We will run a pilot in January for a few families, so if you’re interested in volunteering to buddy an arriving family, do contact me! ”
