It is important to discuss and agree on a cybsersafety plan to ensure the safety of everyone at home. It is important that parents/caregivers supervise online spaces within your own environment -always know what they are doing on their device.
Create a cybersafety plan/agreement before your children use a device.
Also consider the following:
At our school we have a general rule that screens must be visible to others (especially adults) at all times. We ask that device use should be in the dining room or lounge room - a place where older family member is around.
Restrict online time to set times only - at school we are on the device for only 20 - 30 minutes. We have breaks in between.
No “history” to be deleted from devices and make sure that history is regularly checked.
Regularly, discuss what sites they have been on and what they have been doing on their device.
Limit the use of social media - parents/caregivers should have access to their social media account or any personal email accounts.
Go over the agreement regularly (1-2 times a week) with your child/ren, and review if required. Make sure the agreement is visible to everyone.
Consider what should happen if the agreement is broken.
