What Students Are Going To Learn in Math 6 and Pre-Algebra
In Math 6 and Pre-Algebra, instructional time focuses on four critical areas: (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division, and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking. The major emphasis clusters of Math 6 and Pre-Algebra are:
Ratios and Proportional Relationships,
The Number System, and
Expressions and Equations.
We will also cover topics in Geometry and Probability and Statistics.
While Pre-Algebra does cover the same topics as Math 6, such topics are learned at a quicker pace and deeper depth of knowledge. Pre-Algebra can also expect to cover a Taxes, Tips, and Discounts unit whereas Math 6 will not.
Please check out the unit outlines below for a further look into the different topics covered in each math class.
