Every school has its own rhythm. When we closed in March due to the pandemic, as the new principal, I was still getting to know my school’s, and I had many concerns. How would we keep the spirit of our close-knit community thriving? How would we ensure that no student fell through the cracks?
I knew that fastidious attention to student data would help us get through this tough time. When the Portal by New Visions started incorporating remote student engagement in its data, it allowed our staff to see which students were struggling. The data helped us understand and address each student’s unique needs and challenges. It also helped us recognize and celebrate students who reached academic milestones. Despite what was going on in the world, we ended the school year with a 20 percent improvement in our graduation rate."
