The Reed School Counselors
The mission of the counseling department is to create an environment where students feel safe to openly discuss any personal/social, family or academic concerns. Although all counseling sessions are confidential, students are always encouraged to discuss and communicate any concerns with their parents/guardians.
Amy McGoldrick
My name is Amy McGoldrick and this will be my 13th year as a School Counselor at Reed! I will be working with 5th and 6th grade this school year! I attended Western New England College and received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2007 and graduated with my Masters in School Counseling from Western Connecticut State University in 2011. I am really looking forward to working with your children as they continue their experience here at Reed and explore their interests and grow both as students and individuals. I am very excited to be a member of the school counseling department and have the opportunity to work with both you and your children! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Jenny Grustas
My name is Jenny Grustas and this is my 22nd year as a School Counselor with Newtown Public Schools. I am proud to say that I was the first counselor at Reed Intermediate when the school opened in 2003!! I graduated from University of Connecticut with a Bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Relations in 1997 and received my Masters in School Counseling from Central Connecticut State University in 2002. My husband and I have two children, Jillian and Gavin and I love spending time with my family and being outdoors. I also love taking our dog, Sadie, for long walks!
One of the things I love the most about being a School Counselor at Reed is getting to see the students grow and mature throughout their two years here. I am so excited for the upcoming year! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Jennifer Welton
My name is Jennifer Welton. This year at Reed I will be working with 5th grade. This is my 20th year at Reed Intermediate School and overall my 27th year as an educator in Connecticut. I graduated from Western Connecticut State University in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Psychology. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade for four years in a neighboring public school. I earned my Master’s Degree in School Counseling at Fairfield University in 2001. I love to travel and have studied some of the education systems around the world. Baseball has always been a favorite past time for my family.
You will be amazed during the next two years here at Reed, how your student will develop academic, social and emotional skills to help them become successful individuals and independent thinkers. I look forward to working together with Reed families over the next two years and being your child's school counselor.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
