Newton Public Schools has mainly transitioned to using ParentSquare for most of our routine communication. This includes our monthly Transition Newsletters. This newsletter includes information about upcoming events in the greater Newton community and online related to transition topics. Typically, the newsletter is published during the first week of each month, covering the coming 4-6 weeks. It is never too early to educate yourself on these topics - the more you know the more you will be prepared to engage in a thoughtful and informed conversation with your/your child's IEP team about transition planning.
Here's where to look to find your newsletter:
Newton North: Published by Heather Wood to her Transition group. This group automatically sends to all students on IEPs and their families. If you have not been receiving the newsletter, please let Heather (woodh@newton.k12.ma.us) or your IEP liaison/case manager know so that we can get that fixed.
Newton South: Published by John Curley to his Transition group. This group automatically sends to all students on IEPs and their families. If you have not been receiving the newsletter, please let John (curleyj@newton.k12.ma.us) or your IEP liaison/case manager know so that we can get that fixed.
Central: You should receive the ParentSquare for the your districted high school from Heather Wood (North) or John Curley (South). Please contact them if you are not.
Out-of-district placements: Shannon Filipiak shares the monthly Transition newsletter to you. If you have not been receiving the newsletter, please let Shannon (filipiaks@newton.k12.ma.us) know so that we can get that fixed.
Younger students (students who are 14 years old or will be turning 14 within the year): Based on input from your building administrator's input, you should either be receiving a copy via ParentSquare or email.
Student Services Staff: You should be receiving this via your building based administrator's communication preference. If you are not, please check in with your district transition specialist (North: Heather Wood; South: John Curley) or Lisa Goldthwaite.
Unfortunately, in our move to ParentSquare, our older, archive of Smore produced newsletters was lost. As most of this information was time-contingent, it is likely that this archive is now highly out-of-date. Links to more stable, on-going resources are available throughout the other pages of this website.
If you are looking for something in particular that you have not been able to find, please email the Transition Specialist for your districted high school (North: Heather Wood; South: John Curley), Lisa Goldthwaite (district-wide Transition Coordinator), or your IEP liaison for support.
