Symphonic Band members are provided a rich spectrum of opportunities to gain skill on their instrument, develop ensemble playing and perform on department concerts. The Symphonic Band explores the vast spectrum of band literature for high school level band. Symphonic Band is an opportunity allowing students to gain skills in a variety of styles and sufficiently prepare them for other Newton North experiences.

Wind Ensemble (809) (Full Year Course) 9-12

Wind Ensemble is a full year upper level band course. This is open to incoming 9th Graders and students interested in this option music speak to their current band director of a recommendation. This course would be recommended for a student who is strongly interested in making music/band a core part of their high school elective experience. This course also allows for a 9th Grader to do band for a full year.

Incoming 9th Grade Students:

The Symphonic Band is the typical track option for incoming band students to experience the full richness of the music department at North. However, if a student is interested in doing band for the entire year they should consider taking the Symphonic Band Full Year Option - please speak to you current band teacher about this option. Students in both ensembles will get the opportunity to perform on several department concerts and school events throughout the school year. This band also provides the unique experience of collaborating with older band students via combined ensemble experiences. Incoming students will immediately make strong connections with other students in the music program and this unique opportunity will give them a greater sense of belonging at North! - Mr. Labedz

Rising 10th, 11th & 12 Grade Students:

Wind Ensemble is a the option for students interested in elevating and expanding their musical experience at North. Being a part of the Wind Ensemble places you with a select group of musicians that is dedicated to pursuing a high level of band settings. In addition to the large band experience the full year Wind Ensemble course option explores chamber music, festival participation as well as great connections and sharing music with the community.
