If you read aloud to your child this week, draw a body on your paper, for you have begun to build a very basic part of him.
If you have read stories about someone like him/herself or a neighborhood like yours, put arms on the body. You have helped him/her find their place: to reach out and enrich his/her world.
If you and your child read for a specific purpose-to look up a phone number, to read a recipe, to follow a road map, etc., put a head on his/her shoulders. You have given him/her a key to unlock information.
If you read a comic, a cartoon, of a funny story to your child, put a hat on his/her head. You have given your child something extra that adds color to his/her life and plants the seeds of a sense of humor.
If you have read to your child about something new to him/her-different customs, values, or environment, put legs on the body. You have helped your child to walk out into the world.
If you have read a variety of fantasy, fairy tales, folk tales, true tales, and stories of make believe, put clothes on the body. ~ou have added new dimensions to his/her life.
If you have shared a poem with him/her put a sun in the sky. You have brought beauty and color into your child's life.
ENJOY!!!!!
