Chorus classes offer an opportunity to expand vocal technique, sight-reading, musical phrasing and the appreciation of many genres of music. Chorus is a highly active atmosphere and thus quite different from other academic classes. Therefore developing good rehearsal skills will be an important part of this class.
For a calm and productive rehearsal, please observe the following:
Be on the risers with your folder at the beginning of each class.
Arrive with a pencil.
Stop all talking when the teacher (conductor) asks for your attention.
Always be quiet and attentive when the conductor is teaching or when another student is addressing the class.
Behave in a courteous, respectful manner to each other and the conductor.
If you need to leave the room, get permission and sign out.
Only water is permitted in rehearsal
You will receive a grade on your report card each semester. Your grade will be based on: rehearsal and concert attendance, being prepared, progress, conduct (behavior), and class participation. The concerts are the culmination of this class, equivalent to a final project, final exam or a sports playoff game. Thus they are mandatory.
Dropping an Ensemble: It is important to us that students learn about honoring commitments and supporting their peers through our program. To that end, we work hard with students to identify what might be causing their desire to leave an ensemble so that we can help support them in moving forward with us. Only when it is clear that dropping their ensemble is what that student needs will we allow dropping an ensemble before a concert. In order for a student to drop an ensemble, we must receive notification from a parent or guardian (email or note).
