How Parents Can Help

  1. Join the Bigelow Middle School PTO! Building the Bigelow Music community and providing the most opportunities for students to succeed musically here at Bigelow is made possible by the continued support of parents and guardians, as volunteers and through donations. The NPS music fees do not cover all the costs of instruments, sheet music, equipment, printing, field trips, etc. For questions and to sign up contact our Music PTO:
  2. Encourage your student continuously. Ask them to play for you and keep track of their practice time. When they see you care about their improvement, they will also care.
  3. Attend concerts. A concert is a major test that you can watch, listen to, and appreciate everything your student has worked hard to acchieve.
  4. Volunteer as a chaperone for field trips. These are opportunities to make unique memories with your student and we all will appreciate your involvement.
  5. Tell administrators, school board members, and state legislators about all the achievements your student makes through being involved in the Arts.
  6. Seek private lessons and extra-curricular music activities for your student. I truly believe that it is important for students to have the opportunity to learn from different teachers. Private lessons provide more individualized attention specifically on your student's instrument.
  7. Do not try to fix an instrument on your own - unless you are an experienced instrument repair technician.
