Technology Tools to Make Learning Accessible
What is Accessibility?
The Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education defines accessibility as meaning “when a person with a disability is afforded the opportunity to acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same services as a person without a disability in an equally integrated and equally effective manner, with substantially equivalent ease of use.”
To understand whether or not something is accessible you have to consider: the material or space, the context and the user. Without understanding what exactly you are looking to make accessible, the context or situation, and who is actually using the material or in the space, it is difficult to tell if something is accessible or not.
