Massachusetts has funded a limited number of students with membership to Learning Ally, which provides human voiced access to books with some text support. Learning Ally services are limited to individuals with documented learning disabilities, vision impairment, or physical disabilities that impede the ability to process standard print. Seats are already filled, however, we have some seats available to use with students. Teachers will determine who needs access.
The state funded seats are reserved for students with qualifying disabilities and reading accommodations on their IEPs or 504 plans. Families may purchase a annual memberships, however Learning Ally’s audiobooks are reserved for those with documented print disabilities.
"The use of our audiobooks is restricted to those who have a demonstrated learning disability, visual impairment, or physical disability that makes it difficult to read using traditional print. For legal reasons, we require documentation from a qualified professional for each member." Visit Learning Ally for more information.
There are other audiobook options for students without disabilities.
All special education teachers should have a Learning Ally account so they can view students who have access and assign books. If you do not already have an account please email Kayla.
