Reading

We have hundreds of great books in our library.  All of the books are organized by genre or by author.  Each book is color- coded according to the genre of book.  BLUE is realistic fiction, RED is adventure, YELLOW is fantasy, GREEN is historical fiction, BROWN is biography/autobiography,  and WHITE is non-fiction.

We read each day in class both independently and in small groups.  In our small groups we read a variety of titles and study different reading strategies.

We read 30 minutes each night or a total of 2 hours 30 minutes per week. We keep track of the books we read on a list. 

In our reading folders we keep reading strategy lessons as well as our response journal. We make connections, ask questions, infer, and make  predictions about our independent reading books.  We also keep a copy of our book report schedule that helps us plan and organize our reading.  Each month we read a different genre for our book reports.

The following list is to help you organize for one of our long-term projects:  Book Reports!  Each month you must read a certain genre of book for the assignment.  If you need help finding a book, your teacher will be more than willing to help you at any time.  The assignment will be written out and given to you on the assigned days.  You will have approximately one month to complete each project.
