Program Options are subject to change. Some activities require teacher recommendation and/or qualifying test scores for participation. 

Battle of the Books 

(Grades 4-5)  

Students read 20 pre-determined books individually and then come together in teams of 5 to compete in a school wide challenge. (Starts in October)

Math Masters

(Grades 5) 

Students develop individual and team problem solving strategies.  Competitions consist of fact drill, individual problem solving and team problem solving rounds.  Teams of five compete at the Math Masters Competition in the spring.

Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl

(Grade 5) 

Teams of students work together to answer 100 questions as quickly as possible in a variety of categories including math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, English, history, general information, and just plain fun trivia.  

Word Masters

(Grades 4-5)

The WordMasters Challenge™ is a national competition for students in grades 3-8 that encourages growth in vocabulary and verbal reasoning.  Each year, over 125,000 students from some of the best public and private schools throughout the United States participate in the WordMasters Challenge. 

MN Zoo ZOOMS Project

(Grades 4-5)


the ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge presented by Flint Hills REsources offers students a chance to develop a solution to a "real" problem faced by Zookeepers and staff at the Minnesota Zoo.  From designing and enrichment, to building a model of a renovated animal exhibit, the problem will challenge students to use their science and math knowledge, creativity, problem solving, and research skills during the engineering design process in order to best solve the problem and present a solution.
