Dear Readers,
I’m not really sure how many of you there are out there - but to those that are reading this, thank you. For the past three years, I have poured my heart and soul into these articles. I joined The Mirror as a slightly (okay, very) scared 6th grader who liked to write, and now I’m ending as a significantly more confident 8th grader, who still likes to write. And part of this confidence has been created by The Mirror.
The Mirror has been an evolving creature over the past few years. The first meeting in my 6th grade year was in pre-Chromebook times, a silent session in the computer lab. When we got Chromebooks, these serious meetings became more casual, playful get-togethers. And I found myself climbing the loosely put together hierarchy of The Mirror. Soon enough, I was our unofficial editor, putting hours of work into every issue and polishing each article until it gleamed. By 7th grade, my position was official.
8th grade came with an advisor change, which of course meant The Mirror was run in new ways. Still, the goal of quality, enjoyable articles stayed the same, as did my position as editor. This year especially, I have been very impressed by new additions to the club and their extreme dedication.
As a whole, I am proud and honored to have seen how this club has grown and expanded through the years. I am delighted to be able to call many members my friends, some of whom I never would have met without The Mirror. I am sure that next year, once I’m in the high school, this newspaper will continue to be able to run because of the systems that have been put in place. And because of the dedicated club members who will step up to the plate and take the responsibility of running a newspaper.
So really, the thought I want to leave readers with (no matter how many of you there actually are), is that I am so, so grateful for this opportunity, and I am so, so excited to watch what The Mirror becomes in my absence. Thank you again to the readers - I hope at least a few people have genuinely enjoyed what I and others have worked so hard to create. Thank you to Ms. Denman (our current advisor) and Ms. O’Malley (our previous advisor). Without you, we could not function. Most of all, thank you to my fellow reporters. You are what makes this worth doing, and you will all do great things in the future.
Good night, everyone. Thank you for reading, and enjoy this school year’s final issue!
Sincerely,
Noah Solano
Editor-in-chief of The Mirror
