"Then the Magic Happened" by Paula Hammond
From the artist: As a writer, I see my art as an extension of storytelling. The images I create often capture a moment in time, just before or just after something strange or monumental has happened. They could, very easily, be the prompt for a story; images to evoke ideas, feelings, and curiosity. The title for this piece is Then The Magic Happened. And I still haven’t decided what the story is. Is this a lowly apprentice finally mastering a spell? Perhaps the magic is accidental: the result of the right words, spoken in the right place, at just the right time? Maybe this Victorian gentleman/gentlewoman isn’t a magician at all—simply an observer. If so, what might they see materializing in that kaleidoscope of lightning and mist? Something they’ve lost? Something they love? I hope people have their own ideas.
