Polymorph
Poem - by Jerri Hardesty
Soft summer breezes play lightly
Through my fur,
Ruffling,
Then dropping it to rest again.
I am the rabbit.
In the dawn,
The world is mine.
I sit,
In awe and a part of
The beauty
All about me.
Squirrel
Scampers up a tree,
Small claws scratching bark,
Knows there's no
Threat
From me.
I am only a rabbit.
Sweet smells reach me
Of clover
With tender, young leaves,
Other furred things, each sound
Amplified,
Classified,
Memorized.
I sort the world and there is peace.
I leap,
Extending myself
Full-length through the air.
My soft paws touch ground,
Gather, leap again.
I am the rabbit.
The sun rises higher,
The warning is clear.
I lie down once more in soft grasses.
I rise,
Walk back to the car
And drive home.
