Year 1 Tech Mentors

Elementary Program Leads:

Jenny Carr graduated from Saint John Fisher College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Library Media and is now in her sixth year of teaching at Newfield Elementary School and eighth year as a Librarian overall. Jenny has a passion for Computer Science and loves to use Computer Science to engage students in creative ways. Jenny is an advocate for making sure all students have equitable access to the Computer Science curriculum and thinks it is a crucial skill to prepare students for the future. Jenny is a Tech Mentor and provides group and 1:1 training for teachers in the district. Jenny is also a leader in the School Library System where she has provided training and helped develop Computer Science Curriculum used region wide. Jenny will build and manage the Elementary School Maker Space, Goal 2 Objective 2.2 and will offer Tech focused PD Goal 3 Objective 3.2. Kym Stine Kym Stine graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Southwestern College in Winfield Kansas. She is currently attending Grand Canyon University for her Masters in Educational Administration. Her career has spanned 23 years teaching all grade levels 1st-5th. Kym has held positions in schools in Switzerland, Kansas, Texas, and New York. She is in her 3rd year at Newfield Central Schools. This year she has started in a new position as Elementary Instructional Coach. She has a passion for integrating technology in lessons to increase student engagement as well as, using technology to connect and share thinking with others. Kym is currently a technology coach who delivers 1:1 and group trainings with teachers as well as helps them implement technology in their lessons.  Kym was the 2010 New Boston ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year, 2010-2011 Texas State Region 8 Teacher of the Year, and Clara Love Elementary Teacher of the Year 2017.  Kym will offer Tech focused PD Goal 3 Objective 3.2 and can be reached at kstine@newfieldschools.org or 607-564-9955.


Bryan Mix earned his Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education with a focus on Special Education from Keuka College in 2009. He went on to finish his grad work with earning a Master’s degree in Teacher Leadership and Curriculum Development from IWU. He is in his second year with Newfield Central School District as a Third-Grade Special Education Teacher. Prior to Newfield he has worked the past ten years in education, primarily in Elementary Special Education. Bryan has a passion for cyber related topics and is constantly learning about new technologies and incorporating them as much as possible into the classroom. He has attended the RSA conference in 2018 and 2019 and is fascinated by the new approaches that are constantly developed to better protect himself and his family against cyber threats that we are faced with in a digital world. Through these experiences and learning opportunities he has been able to incorporate some of this knowledge into his lessons with his students. Middle School Program Leads:

Joel Blizzard graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a BSed in Speech Pathology, completed Special Education certification through NYSUT ELT, is currently earning his MSed at SUNY Empire and seeking SOCE certification in Computer Science. Joel is in his third year at Newfield Middle and High Schools as a Special Education Teacher and STEAMshop Technology teacher. Previous to Newfield, he taught in many disciplines over 20 years, mostly as a TESOL teacher. He has travelled the world several times and from those experiences, bases his teaching on creating equitable outcomes for all students. As a musician, Joel has produced and engineered several full length albums, managed and designed digital media promotional campaigns and merchandise products. Since 2019, Joel has been participating in the Teknologia program through TST BOCES, specializing in digital ePortfolios and Arduino coding. In his current STEAMshop Technology class, Joel has initiated a project based learning makerspace where students engage in the Design Thinking process to develop interactive products that meet true needs, using ePortfolio based assessment to evidence learning. Allyssa Graham is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent English who graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a Bachelor’s Degree in Adolescent Education and English (2012) and from UNC Charlotte with a Master’s Degree in Middle Grades Education and English (2015). This is Allyssa’s fourth year at Newfield Middle School and her ninth year of teaching overall. Allyssa has participated in the TST BOCES Teknologia program (2018-2021), learning new technologies and digital learning strategies that were then transferred into her classroom with students. Allyssa serves as a Tech Mentor, assisting other staff members with technology and platform questions and is a member of the Antiracist, Equity, and Inclusion committee, working specifically on curriculum. Allyssa will focus on supporting students with Goal 1 Objective 1.1 and supporting technology opportunities with Goal 3 Objective 3.1 and 3.2. Adam Tarpey graduated from Ithaca College with degrees in Music Education and Voice performance in the fall of 2019. He promptly started his teaching career at Newfield in the spring of 2020, where he found a community of passionate collaborators. Adam has experience with creative arts technology through running an audio and video production company with his brother, specializing in music technology and audio production. Adam is a Tech Mentor, providing professional development and assisting staff members with instructional technology such as GoPros and Soundtrap. He also serves on the Antiracist, Equity, and Inclusion committee, focussed on student empowerment. He feels passionate about project based learning and plans to support student driven projects in both the Media and Gaming labs. Adam will focus on Goal 2 Objective 2.2 while building the Gaming and Media labs and supporting our community with Goal 3 Objective 3.2. High School Program Leads:

Meg Conner is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent/Young Adult Art who has been teaching since 2002. She graduated from Syracuse University with a BA in Art Education and a concentration in Ceramics, and from Skidmore College with a MALS degree focused on Art and Anthropology. Meg participated in the TST BOCES Technologia program in 2018 and learned new ways to incorporate digital technology into her classroom. She believes that the creative arts teach students essential skills like creativity, critical thinking, and communication that will help them compete in the 21st century workforce. Meg will support the creation of Broadband Media Kits in Goal 1, Objective 1.2/1.3 and will also support Goal 2, Objective 2.2, building of the Media and Gaming Labs. Jonathan Smith received his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Geneseo and his Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences from Syracuse University.  This is his second year at Newfield and his fourteenth year teaching overall.  He strongly believes in the power of technology and its ability to level the playing field for smaller school districts.  As an educator Jonathan takes a technology-forward approach to teaching and, specifically as a Library Media Specialist, believes in exposing students to all manner of technology.  He serves as a tech mentor to the middle and high school staff. Katie Troger graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Psychology and a Master's Degree in Teaching and is now in her sixth year of teaching at Newfield High School and eighth year teaching overall. Katie has always had a passion for technology and loves to use technology to engage students and enhance her curriculum. Katie is a big advocate for everyone being technologically literate and thinks it is a crucial 21st century skill. Katie loves to help others and wants to inspire others to learn new things and do things outside their comfort zone. Katie is a Google for Education Certified Trainer will provide 1:1 training in all things tech for teachers in the district.Katie will also support students with Goal 1 Objective 1.1. Karyn Hutchinson 

Karyn Hutchinson graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biomolecular Science from Clarkson University and a Master's Degree in Chemistry Education from Binghamton University. She is currently in her 12th year of teaching at Newfield High School and is the Co-Advisor for our Middle School Robotics Club where she helps students learn the basics of coding by introducing them to block coding. She works hard to foster an environment that encourages students to lead the club themselves and to work at their own pace. This student lead club allows students to work together to build their own robots and create their own programs for these robots so that they can complete specific LEGO Cargo Connect Challenges. She also serves as a Tech Mentor for the high school students and staff by providing any assistance with technology when needed. Karyn believes that technology is the future of education and that it is an essential skill for students to succeed when they move on from high school. She works hard to ensure that all students learn how to implement technology in their everyday lives safely and effectively. She utilizes technology in her curriculum and is an advocate for technology equity among all students. Karyn will support students with Goal 1 Objective 1.1.
