Please note that some retail clothing stores (Madewell and Patagonia) are included because they accept donations of their previously bought clothing.
In exchange for returning Madewell Denim to their stores, they will offer you a $20 discount off your next denim purchase. They work with Blue Jeans Go Green to turn your denim into housing insulation, preventing the waste from ending up in landfills. Learn more here.
Patagonia is dedicated to keeping waste from landfills, as well. They offer a clothing refurbishing program, where you can send in your Patagonia clothing for repairs to extend the life of each article. If these clothes are beyond the point of repair, they will recycle them into something new. To learn more about their initiative, please click here. In addition to this, Patagonia offers fair trade sewing, to ensure healthy work environments for their manufacturers.

According to the rules of supply and demand, the less people (such as yourself) purchasing clothing, the less clothing is made. We already have enough clothing in the world for everybody to have full closets. Therefore by making fewer purchases of higher quality clothing, a smaller amount will end up in our landfills in the long run.
