History at A-Level is a highly stimulating and rewarding experience which offers a fantastic opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of British and Russian History. Through studying the past, students arrive at a far better understanding of present day issues in the modern world.
History also enables students to develop many of the key skills identified by both University Admissions tutors and the country’s leading employers as vital to academic success and career progression. These include independent research, analytical communication and problem-solving skills. Above all, A-Level History enhances students’ ability to become life-long learners by not only encouraging continual reflection of their own performance, but also through stressing the importance of working responsibly with others.
KEY FEATURES OF THE COURSE
The course covers Social, Economic and Political change and how people in Britain and the Russia have been affected by change in the short and long term. Through source investigation, debate/discussion, presentations and independent enquiry students will acquire excellent historical skills in order to assess the significance of events, individuals, beliefs and movements from that particular time. They will develop their ability to reach substantiated judgements on key questions in history and how to construct an effective balanced argument. The A level course for Y13 will have a breadth study of an significant historical development over a 100 year period, a depth study of a major historical change and a controlled assessment section.
