Language is all around us and is constantly changing and evolving, which makes it an interesting focus for study. This course will challenge you to question the foundations of English Language and explore the acquisition of language and how we use it on a day to day basis - whether that be texts, tweets, adverts or more formal levels of discourse. This course develops creativity and the ability to critically deconstruct and analyse the world around you. English Language A-Level is perfect for those students who have an interest in our language and enjoy communication in all of its forms. Students who choose this course need to be creative thinkers, who can interpret the world, whilst still employing the critical analysis skills needed to delve deep into the words around us. This subject particularly complements other courses such as History, Performance Studies, Psychology and Sociology as they all focus on how and why language is used in different contexts.
Literature deals with the ‘big questions’: How do we, as a society and as individuals, understand and challenge the world around us? Studying Literature will give you the opportunity to develop analytical and critical thinking skills as well as the opportunity to express your creativity through studying some of the greatest and more inspiring texts of the past couple of centuries.
This course will look at how we use language, not just in literature, but on a day to day basis - whether that be texts, tweets, adverts or more formal levels of discourse. This course develops creativity and the ability to critically deconstruct and analyse the world around you.
This course is ideal for anyone who enjoys reading and exploring language, who is prepared to work at a challenging pace and who has an ability to read beyond the literal text. Students who choose this course need to be effective communicators orally, so that they can share their ideas in class discussions and in writing, so that they can eloquently demonstrate their understanding.
