Instrumental Ensembles in Middle School

5th Grade Band

At the end of the 4th grade year, students try out all of the instruments to figure out which is the best for them. The last few days of summer break we offer FREE lessons to get a jump start on concert band for the 5th grade school year. 5th Grade Concert band is open to all 5th grade students. This ensemble meets every other day during the school day. 5th graders participate in concert band and have a concert in December, March and May.

6th Grade Band

Beginning the 6th grade year of band, middle school students march in a combined performance with the high school marching band at the homecoming football game, an optional Memorial Day Parade in Alta Vista and various pep assemblies at the middle school. Students need to have a marching band shirt for performances as well as marching supplies. 6th Grade Concert band is open to all 6th grade students. This ensemble meets every other day during the school day. The 6th grade concert band has performances in September, December, March and May.

7th/8th Grade Concert Band

7th/8th Grade Concert band is open to all 7th and 8th grade students. This ensemble meets every other day during the school day. This ensemble includes marching band performances like 6th grade but also includes a Homecoming parade and Heartland days parade (in June). This band has performances in September, December, March, May and June.

Middle School Jazz Band

Middle School Jazz Band is an ensemble open to all 7th and 8th grade students and auditioned 6th grade students. To participate you must be a member of the concert band class. The 7th/8th grade jazz band rehearses Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:00am-7:45am. The season runs from October to March. There are performances in December and March.
