Parent Involvement
Parent involvement is important to the teachers and staff members of Bryan and Benton Elementary. Successful parent involvement can be defined as the active, ongoing participation of a parent or primary caregiver in the education of his or her child. Parents can be involved at home by reading with their children, helping them with homework, and discussing school activities. Here are some different ways parents can be involved:
Walking Students to Class
Parents will be permitted to walk their students to the classroom during the first day of school (August 23) if necessary. Following this time period, parents will not be allowed to do so. There will be multiple staff members available to assist students in getting to their classrooms. This procedure will provide our students and staff the opportunity to begin their day with minimal interruptions while keeping our school building as safe and secure as possible.
Birthday Celebrations
We will celebrate elementary student birthdays once a month. These specific days are listed on the district calendar (2nd Friday of each month). Parents are invited to attend, but will need to contact the classroom teacher for a specific celebration time and to determine what food/drink items to bring. Please remember that all food and drink items must be prepackaged (no baked goods will be allowed).
Holiday Parties
We will celebrate holidays (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day) with classroom parties. Parents are invited to attend, but must first confirm with the classroom teacher that they will be attending. Because of space, only a limited number of parents will be allowed to attend each party. Be sure to communicate with your child's teacher if you are interested in planning or helping with these events. Please remember that all food and drink items must be prepackaged (no baked goods will be allowed). More specific information will be shared closer to the event dates.
Lunch
Visitors will be allowed to eat lunch with students. Only parents/guardians will be permitted, unless prior approval has been made with the office for another person to attend. Visitors and their students will sit at a special location in the cafeteria and not with the other students at the regular classroom table. Please refrain from planning to eat with your student during the first two weeks of school. This will allow us the time to establish the routines and procedures necessary for an efficient lunch period for our students.
Other During/After School Activities
We have planned many events throughout the school year in an effort to involve parents/guardians in the academic process. These events include, but are not limited to: Meet the Teacher Day, Parent/Teacher Conferences, music programs, Grandparents' Day, Scholastic Book Fair, etc. All of these events are listed on the school calendar. More specific information will be listed closer to the event dates.
