Curriculum

Curriculum Instruction
The Missouri Learning Standards are our guiding principles for language arts and math skills. Students complete common assessments during each quarter. The common assessments check for understanding of grade level curricular requirements.

Reading

A very important component of our curriculum is reading instruction. Our teachers use a balanced literacy approach to teach reading. The goal is to help students reach their full potential. The reading activities we implement include: guided reading, independent reading, and read alouds. Students' reading levels are assessed through the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment), Lexia, the IReady Diagnostic Reading Assessment, and running records.

Writing

Another important part of our curriculum is writing. Students will begin to learn basic writing skills during kindergarten and will refine those skills throughout the year. They will then expand upon those skills during 1st and 2nd grade.

Math

The math curriculum we implement are directly tied to the Missouri Learning Standards. These standards allow us to teach fewer math concepts but at a deeper level of understanding.

Science/Social Studies

K and 1st teachers teach science and social studies and integrate it into other subjects. 2nd grade teachers teach a specific science curriculum. We also have science and social studies common assessments at K, 1st, and 2nd grades. Grades for those assessments will be on your child's grade card. We will continue to work on our science and social studies curricula in order to ensure lessons and activities that are both informational and engaging for your students.
