Writing Program Overview

The Netflix Animation Writing Program is a full-time paid opportunity for up to six months for new-to-market writers to join Netflix Animation Studios as a writing apprentice on one of our animated projects. While in the Program, writers are embedded in production from day one, receiving invaluable hands-on experience developing and pitching ideas, writing scripts, and taking masterclasses on the craft—all while building relationships that are then strengthened in the writers room.

Program Eligibility

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship (both during and upon completion of the program).
Must not have been previously hired as a staff writer.
Must not have been previously hired as a freelance writer on three or more productions.
Must submit two original pilot samples for specific genres and audiences as outlined by each job posting.

A college degree or advanced education is not required for these opportunities.

How Do I Apply?

Apprentice openings are posted on NetflixAnimation.com as they become available. All candidates who meet the eligibility and submission criteria outlined in each opening are welcome to apply.

Writing Sample Guidelines

Samples submitted for the Writing Program are evaluated in the following areas:

Proper script format
Strong understanding of story structure
Originality of premise/concept
Unique character voice & dialogue
Humor (if applicable; e.g. comedy samples)
Research (if applicable; e.g. accurate portrayals of historical events, time periods, career-focused narratives, etc.)

Samples must include a title page and be saved in PDF format.

Please ONLY upload your sample script. Do NOT submit additional materials such as series bibles, outlines, concept art, or other documents related to your sample or otherwise. Your application will NOT be considered if additional materials are submitted and those additional materials will not be reviewed by Netflix.
