Candidates must meet the following criteria:
Must be over 18 years of age to participate.
Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship (both during and upon completion of the program).
Early career artists with less than 3 years of professional animation experience.
Must have an online portfolio that demonstrates a strong understanding of fundamental art design for animated feature films. (See the submission material and portfolio guidelines section for more details on what to submit.)
Must be available to work full-time during the program timeline.
We are looking for emerging artists from all backgrounds who have a passion for animation and want to further hone their skills regardless of educational background. We like to see well-rounded artists with unique and authentic voices. We recommend that you present your strongest work and focus on quality over quantity.
Consideration for the Visual Development Program is evaluated on the following areas:
Designs that capture visual story moments.
Exploratory concepts that set a tone or mood of a story.
Composition.
Shape language.
Strong painting skills and understanding of color and lighting.
Strong understanding of anatomy (e.g. posing, expressions, gestures).
Technical drawings (e.g. orthographic turns, line work, breakdowns, color picketing).
Understanding of Perspective.
Showcasing a range of versatile styles.
Worldbuilding (skill In creating unique believable worlds that tie character and story together.
