Standard 1 - Teaching Diverse Students – The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning.
Within my comprehnsion lesson, I started off the lesson with a presentation describing each vocabulary word. Within the presentation, I included visuals of myself and others to represent each word. By giving my personal experience, there was that aspect of a personal connection that students could make as well. For example, the image with my friend and I, describing friendliness, students could relate to their own friends.
Along with the slideshow, I had a vocabulary sheet the students could use that enabled them to have a tangible object. Each word also had a desription and a visual to go along. By providing and additional visual, it may help students to learn even more.
