One way that I used this standards was through the comprehension and social studies lesson. This lesson was based around segregation. So the way that I implemented this was by allowing students to gain a perspective of how segregation has changed over the years. This was done by using maps that showed how segregation changed in Chicago from 1930 - 1970 - 2010.
Another example would be in my writing and social studies lesson. Within this lesson, I knew students were going to be going to the Abraham Lincoln musuem in Springfield, so I addressed how they would predict they would feel at the musuem by showing them pictures. The pictures showed Abraham Lincoln and how exhibits of what that time would look like. So by this, I would allowing students to recogonize how the United States has changed from that time period to now.
This standard has influnced my teaching by showing me that a very good way to understand the United States now, it to look at what it used to be. It has changed so much within the past several hundred years that it can be unrecognizable. But also for students to compare a time period to now, to see how it is similar. Students can realize why segregation is wrong and be able to apply it to their lives today of when they see that history is repeating.
