East Houston Hawks Updates

End of Season

Our XC squads wrapped up their stellar seasons this weekend with strong showings at the PSAL City Championships. The boys finished 15th in the city while the girls finished 18th, both of which are program bests. We also had enough to field a JV boys team, which finished 12th.

I'm attaching our season bests if you want to check them out...it was a memorable one, and I will treasure it. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to having some afternoons off :-) Thank you for all your support and a special shout out to our Y2's: Amaya Herrera, Angelica Feliciano, Ibn Casinillo, Odessa Forbes, Isaac Rosenthal, Zachary Striegel, Able Bloodgood, and Harry Stehmer.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR GIRLS TENNIS TEAM ON PLACING 2ND IN THE CITY!

10/23 uPDATE

A great and historic weekend for our XC Program. For the first time in school history, both the boys and girls teams qualified for the City championships! The boys started the day with their best showing ever, finishing in 4th place behind only Stuy, Hunter, and HSMSE. Our sophomore sensation Ryder White led the way with a 17th place finish, earning a medal and a huge PR. Able Bloodgood was not far behind, followed by Zachary Habert, Harry Stehmer and Isaac Rosenthal to round out the top 5. August Levenson and Weston Macari also had competitive races and PRs for the hawks.

The girls team stepped up their 11th place finish from last year and finished 7th in a highly competitive Manhattan Borough. We left the meet assuming they did not qualify, but woke up to an email from the PSAL Commissioner saying that we made it! Our senior standout Amaya Herrera continued her stellar season with a 20th place finish, earning a medal for the girls program. Mia DePaolo, Olive Solfrian, Melina Nesbitt, Ibn Casinillo, and Angelica Feliciano all had tremendous races that allowed the girls team to qualify for the first time.

It's amazing to see their hard work paying off, and we're only getting faster. Special s/o to Heidi for her support!! I'm attaching a Google File of pictures if you would like to see some pics--one of our athlete's fathers took some cool shots during the races.

Girls Cross Country

The girls team, not to be outdone, trounced second place Fort Hamilton 34-73, with some incredible times. Y2 Amaya Herrera and Y1 Mia Depaolo led the way for the hawks, finishing 2nd and 3rd. Amelia Leone, Olive Solfrian, and Melina Nesbitt also had PRs and rounded out the top 5 for the hawks. Also with strong races for the hawks: Odessa Forbes, Ibn Casinillo, Gabriella Ronquillo, Angelica Feliciano, Jaritza Vasquez, and Shesit Moreno-Lopez.

Boys Cross Country

On Tuesday, the boys edged out HS Telecommunication Arts 29-41. Isaac Rosenthal led the way with a huge personal best, finishing in 5th place, followed by Harrison Stehmer in 7th, Able Bloodgood in 8th, and newcomer Zachary Habert in 9th. Freshman Weston Macari rounded out the scorers for the hawks. The following athletes also had big personal bests: August Levenson, Daniel Rosenthal, Daniel Godinger, Brandon Esguerra, Oliver Henry, Jeremy Rodriguez, King Mack, and Ife Oyaniyi.

Another solid week for our squads! We made all the athletes run a 5k to see what they had in the tank, and they did not disappoint. Both teams crushed Grand Prix 5 at Prospect Park, finishing 1st in their final tune up before the borough championships this Saturday.

If you have time this weekend and are looking for a little outdoor activity, come support our squads in Van Cortlandt Park (schedule below). Both teams are shooting to qualify for the City Champs! I know Heidi is planning on coming. Thanks for all your continued support!
