Girls Fencing Team Success and Individual Gold!
Congratulations to the team for qualifying for the PSAL Girls Fencing Team Championships!
And shout out to Sophomore Isa Cheng for taking GOLD in the PSAL Individual Girls Fencing Championships at the end of the season as well as GOLD in the Girls Fencing Invitational on April 2. She went nearly undefeated all season and ranked 2nd across the city in touches scored, with 185 touches in 8 games, beating the top-ranked fencer in touches per game.
Track and Field Success and Updates!
The track and field teams had their borough champs this past weekend and both squads had a ton of PRs. We also had three school records! Weston Macari snapped Rafael Misak's 2015 steeplechase record by almost 20 seconds, blazing to a 4th place finish in 10:53.42. His time also qualified him for the City Champs over MDW! Y1 captain Mia DePaolo executed her 1500m race plan flawlessly, snagging an 8th place finish and beating 2019 graduate Hanna Dobroszycki's record by .3 seconds in 5:41.69. Our last record was the last race of the day--the girls 4x400 relay. Teammates Eve Epstein, Zoe Shim, Jade Ferguson, and Sofia Medina smashed another 2019 record by 7 seconds, finishing 4th in 4:44.
Other medalists for East Houston included Jade Ferguson finishing 3rd in the 400m hurdles (her first time running) and Jen Derise finishing 6th in the 1500m race walk (also her first time in the event).
Most of our varsity is finished, but the 9th and 10th graders have their city champs in a couple weeks. Thank you for your support and congratulate our athletes if you see them today.

Happy summer and happy Pride!
This email is going out to anyone who might be interested in competing in cross country this fall. Bard and Nest are combining forces as the East Houston St Hawks--our first XC season as a joint program. There will be a zoom interest meeting this Thursday June 16 @ 6:00pm. In this meeting we'll talk about what you can expect as a cross country runner, summer training, and answer any questions you might have. Your attendance in no way commits you to competing. It's just to learn a bit and help you make an informed decision. Here are four reasons why you should join the XC team this fall:
1. You will get in shape, you will improve, and you will be challenged. We do a lot of running, but mix it in with other fitness activities and weight training as well.
2. We are a large team. This is a great way to meet new people, including students from other schools.
3. Previous running experience is not required. All ability and experience levels are welcomed.
4. Everyone makes the team! There are no cuts.
In the meantime, feel free to shoot me an email with any questions. I look forward to seeing all your faces one last time before summer break. For those not joining, HAGS
Be well,
Coach Miller
