The Network of Emergency Support Services Teams (NESST) is a society in British Columbia that aims to enhance the effectiveness and coordination of Emergency Support Services (ESS) across the province.
In 2022, NESST underwent a rebranding to reflect its expanded mission and its commitment to supporting the broader ESS community. The organization transitioned to the Network of Emergency Support Services Teams.
Over the past several years, British Columbia has experienced an increasing number of significant natural disasters, which have highlighted the critical need for skilled, well-prepared emergency responders. NESST recognizes the importance of training and supporting ESS members to ensure they are equipped to manage these complex, often overwhelming situations. Through collaboration, education, and resource-sharing, NESST helps to build a strong, resilient network of members who are ready to assist when disaster strikes.
NESST's activities extend beyond training events to provide ongoing support and coordination for ESS teams across the province. One of its main initiatives is organizing opportunities for ESS members to participate in collaborative exercises, training programs, and peer learning experiences. Recognizing the geographical challenges in British Columbia, where municipalities and communities are widely dispersed, NESST focuses on creating larger, more inclusive events that bring together volunteers from across the province. These events offer multiple learning opportunities, enabling volunteers to connect with colleagues from different regions, share best practices, and learn from each other’s experiences.
